Se ha confirmado que las siete galaxias destacadas en esta imagen del telescopio espacial de James Webb están a una distancia que los astrónomos se refieren como Redshift 7.9, que se correlaciona con 650 millones de años después del Big Bang. Esto las convierte en las primeras galaxias hasta ahora que se han confirmado espectroscópicamente como parte de un clúster en desarrollo. 

Los astrónomos utilizaron el telescopio espectroggrogrogh grupo. Galaxy YD4, previamente estimada en una distancia adicional basada solo en datos de imágenes, pudo colocarse con mayor precisión en el mismo desplazamiento al rojo que las otras galaxias. Antes de Webb, los astrónomos no tenían datos de alta resolución o datos de infrarrojos espectrales disponibles para hacer este tipo de ciencia. 

A distancias extremas, los astrónomos usan la referencia de desplazamiento al rojo para explicar el hecho de que, a medida que el universo se expande, las longitudes de onda de la luz se estiran y se "desplazan" a longitudes de onda más rojos, que son más largas. Las longitudes de onda más cortas, por ejemplo, ultravioleta y rayos X, están hacia el extremo más azul del espectro electromagnético . Por lo tanto, se hace referencia a distancias extremas en el universo temprano por cuánto se ha cambiado la luz allí a medida que viajaba a través del espacio para ser detectado por un telescopio.

Color Info These images are a composite of separate exposures acquired by the James Webb Space Telescope using the NIRCam instrument. Several filters were used to sample specific wavelength ranges. The color results from assigning different hues (colors) to each monochromatic (grayscale) image associated with an individual filter. In this case, the assigned colors are:   Blue: F115W+F150W, Green: F200W+F277W, Red: F356W+F444W
