
Espectro de reflectancia del doble enrollado centaur 10199, capiturado por webgrogh por webgrogh (NIRSPEC) el 31 de octubre de 2022. Este espectro muestra evidencia clara del hielo de agua cristalina en la superficie de Chariklo.
Un espectro de reflectancia muestra variaciones en el brillo de diferentes longitudes de onda (colores) de la luz solar reflejada. Las caídas en el espectro están relacionadas con la presencia de hielo de agua, que absorbe estas longitudes de onda, disminuyendo la cantidad de luz que se refleja en el telescopio.
