Esta imagen de la nebulosa del caballo de la NASA del telescopio espacial James Webb de la NASA se centra en una parte de la "mane" del caballo que tiene aproximadamente 0.8 años de luz. Fue tomado con Nircam de Webb (cámara de infrarrojo cercano). Las nubes etéreas que aparecen azules en la parte inferior de la imagen están llenas de una variedad de materiales que incluyen hidrógeno, metano y hielo de agua. Las lisas de color rojo que se extienden por encima de la nebulosa principal representan hidrógeno atómico y molecular. En esta área, conocida como región de fotodisociación, la luz ultravioleta de estrellas jóvenes y masivas cercanas crea un área de gas y polvo en su mayoría neutral y cálido entre el gas completamente ionizado arriba y la nebulosa debajo. Al igual que con muchas imágenes de Webb, las galaxias distantes se rocían en el fondo.

Esta imagen está compuesta de luz a longitudes de onda de 1.4 y 2.5 micras (representados en azul), 3.0 y 3.23 microns (cian), 3.35 microns (verde), 4.3 microns (amarillo) y 4.05 micras (rojo).

Color Info These images are a composite of separate exposures acquired by the NIRCam instrument on the James Webb Space Telescope. Several filters were used to sample various wavelength ranges. The color results from assigning different hues (colors) to each monochromatic (grayscale) image associated with an individual filter.
